Job Description: He or she is the chief peace officer of the city and serves both the civil and criminal justice system. (Actual law enforcement is performed by the Police Department). The sheriff is the enforcement arm of the courts, handles transporting and extradition of prisoners and provides security in court rooms and other facilities. He or she serves court orders, writs, subpoenas, jury notices, other legal documents, and conducts sale of personal property and real estate to satisfy judgments, defaulted mortgages, and unpaid taxes.
Term: Four years
Salary: $105,800

1. First, I shall make the office financially accountable to Philadelphians. All monies flowing through the Sheriff’s Office shall be accounted for. All financial transactions shall be transparent. Contracts shall be bid on openly. Second, sheriff’s deputies shall have an expended role in law enforcement working to make the city safer.
