REPRINTED FROM THENEXTMAYOR.COMMay 3, 2007 press release, (submitted via e-mail) |
The Urban Industry Initiative and The Manufacturing Alliance of Philadelphia are heading a city-wide campaign to clean up Philadelphia. But more than clean, we intend on changing the mindset of Philadelphians to recognize the City's litter issue and its consequences, and create an und erstanding that each citizen must take it upon him or her self to be responsible for a change for the better. In addition to creating education programs and using government to promote a clean city and a "don't trash our house" mentality, initiating this change is a grass-roots strategy, pooling resources, collaborating efforts and creating attainable goals for interested businesses, government and community groups to improve Philadelphia block by block.
This campaign will only be successful w ith the participation of the entire City, as everyone benefits from our effort. We seek support, from you, in any of the following: Pick-Up Philadelphia volunteers (once a month commitment), financial / incentive contributions of any kind, and media / news coverage / promotional assistance. Any support helps and is appreciated.
... Attached [is] a brief outline of the campaign; a more detailed strategy will be released May 25th, 2007. Feel free to forward the announcement below to any individuals or groups that may be interested, and for comments, questions or commitments, please contact ... Ned.Rauch-Mannino@phila.gov.
