NUTTER AND FAMILY CELEBRATE MOTHER’S DAY
WITH SUPPORTERS AT A PICNIC IN FAIRMOUNT PARK

Philadelphia, May 8, 2007 — Mayoral candidate and current front-runner Michael Nutter will host a picnic Saturday, May 12th, the day before Mother’s Day, to celebrate the mothers of Philadelphia.

“As a son, grandson, husband of a working mother, and father of a 12-year-old daughter, I know the importance of strong women in this city,” Nutter said. “And those women deserve to be recognized.”

In addition to rising to the top of the polls in the mayor’s race, Nutter has become a sensation with local mothers since the airing of a TV commercial featuring his daughter, Olivia. Mothers have stopped him on the street, or even while he’s driving through neighborhoods, to voice admiration for Nutter and his daughter.

Nutter has made women’s issues a priority in his campaign. Only 6.5 percent of city contracts were awarded to women-owned firms in 2006, and Nutter has pledged to increase that number. He also has called for a regional summit to address the declining number of obstetrics clinics in Philadelphia.

The pre-Mother’s Day picnic will begin a whirlwind get out the vote weekend for Nutter, before voters head to the polls on Tuesday, and it will serve as an opportunity for citizens to show their support before Election Day – and honor this city’s mothers at the same time.

Attendees will be “helping to bring change to this city,” Nutter said, “As well as honoring some of our most important citizens.”

The pre-Mother’s Day picnic will take place this Saturday, May 12, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Mann Music Center in Fairmount Park, at 5201 Parkside Avenue. Food and entertainment will be provided.
