DWIGHT EVANS PROUDLY ACCEPTS THE ENDORSEMENT OF THE PHILADELPHIA TRIBUNE
PHILADELPHIA --- Mayoral candidate Dwight Evans today proudly accepted the endorsement of The Philadelphia Tribune. The Philadelphia Tribune is America’s oldest and the Greater Philadelphia region’s largest daily newspaper dedicated to serving the African American community. Evans announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination on December 11th before a crowd of more than 1,200 people; his campaign slogan is “A Safer Philadelphia – Block by Block.”
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Philadelphia Tribune,” Evans stated today. “I actually started my public service career by being recognized by the Tribune as ‘Citizen of the Year’ in 1979, so it is a special honor to again receive their endorsement and support these 28 years later.”
In today’s editorial endorsing Evans, the Tribune stated that “Evans is the best candidate to lead our city because he is the most qualified, most experienced and has a track record of working to help all of our citizens, not just the more notable ones.”
The editorial continued, “Dwight Evans is the only candidate who combines the best attributes of all his rivals. Evans has a track record and proven leadership on all the issues his opponents are now campaigning on, whether it’s crime, education or jobs. Evans’ rhetoric matches his record, which is why he is best qualified to lead our city…With Evans, Philadelphians will get a proven leader with bold vision and a record of results.”
Evans has also been endorsed and supported by the Black Clergy of Philadelphia & Vicinity, UFCW Local 1776, TWU Local 234, Laborers Local 332, the Guardian Civic League, AFL-CIO Local 6 as well as over 20 state senators, representatives, and city councilpersons in Philadelphia.
