NUTTER EMERGED THE LEADER FROM TESTY DEBATE

Philadelphia, May 7, 2007: Tonight, Michael Nutter won the final debate of the Mayoral campaign. In all of the five major debates, Nutter has looked the strongest, and most mayoral, throughout. Instead of getting mired down in attacks, he has stayed above the fray and focused on the issues. This style of politics has resonated with voters across the city and dramatically increased his fundraising numbers.

During the debate, Nutter spoke of how he would keep our streets safe. "What I'm concerned about is the rapid rate of violence," Nutter said. "What I am concerned about it keeping everyone in Philadelphia safe."

Before tonight's debate Nutter commented, "People just want to talk about the issues. I am going to focus on the real problems such as the increasing murder rate and the decreasing graduation rate in Philadelphia public schools."

Chaka Fattah has publicly insisted on at least twelve occasions that he is committed to running a positive race and will not say anything negative about his opponents. He previously had insisted that "You won't hear me criticize [any] candidates in this race." (Philadelphia Inquirer, 2/11/2007) Tonight desperation forced him to reverse that stance, lashing out at Nutter and even resorting to name calling in an attempt to revive his flagging poll numbers.

Nutter said, "It's sad to see my opponents make such desperate attacks in order to win support. Voters are supporting me because my campaign is focused on the issues. They know that together we can bring change to this city."
