FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PHILADELPHIA—In a tremendous show of momentum, Mayoral Candidate Chaka Fattah today added to his growing number of supporters when he was endorsed by the Valiants, an organization representing 500 African American Firefighters.
Fattah, who accepted the endorsement during a ceremony at the organization’s West Oak Lane headquarters, was well-deserving of the support, said Joseph Sawyer, president of the Valiants.
“Chaka Fattah adheres to the same principles that we do,” Sawyer said. “He has spent his career helping Philadelphians. And just like we protect Philadelphians from fires, Chaka Fattah will protect Philadelphians by intervening in the cycle of crime and poverty that’s crippling our city.”
“I look forward to working with this city’s firefighters and all the people who put their lives on the line to protect our city everyday,” Fattah said. “We have a lot of work to do, but together, we will make Philadelphia a safer and more prosperous city for all of us.”
In addition to the support of the Valiants, Fattah has received endorsements from IATSE Philadelphia Local No 8 Stage Employees, SEIU 32BJ, AFSCME DC 47, Steelworkers Local 404, and the Gas Workers Local 686 UWUA. The Clergy Coalition, which represents more than 100,000 members, and the Pentecostal Clergy Political Action Committee, with over 25,000 members, have both endorsed Fattah. ACORN PAC and the Philadelphia Taxi Owners Association have also expressed support for Fattah.
