Philadelphia, May 4, 2007 — Today the Philadelphia Daily News endorsed Michael Nutter for mayor. This is only the latest paper to throw their support behind the Nutter campaign. He has previously received the support of Philadelphia Inquirer, the City Paper, the Northeast Times, the Daily Pennsylvanian, Philadelphia magazine, and the Fallser already endorsing him.
The Daily News chose Nutter because he “has the intelligence, the vision and the experience necessary to take this city into its rightful future, and to rewrite the old ‘corrupt and content’ story of machine politics, insider deals and ‘pay-to-play.’"
Nutter was pleased to get this latest endorsement. “The newspapers are echoing what I hear on the street everyday. People are ready for change in this city and they think I am the best candidate to deliver it.”
The Daily News also praised Nutter, saying that “his track record and tenacity on the ethics issue shows a leader with smarts and integrity.” Nutter has long been an advocate for reform in the City Council, passing the City’s first pay-to-play and campaign finance legislation and reducing the city wage tax.
The Daily News interviewed all candidates in the race before ultimately deciding to endorse Nutter because they felt he “is the best candidate to create the bridge between these two realities, and integrate them into one great city.”
