Philadelphia, May 2, 2007 — Mayoral candidate Michael Nutter can now add the Northeast Times to the barrage of media outlets that have endorsed his candidacy in recent days.
“He has more to offer Philadelphia’s future than the other candidates, and he has no tangible negatives,” the newspaper wrote in an editorial today. “When you think of honor, ethics and decency, you think of Michael Nutter.”
The paper has a circulation 120,000, making it the largest weekly newspaper in the city of Philadelphia, and perhaps the state. Nutter has already picked up the endorsement of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia magazine, the largest newspaper and magazine in the region, respectively.
“It’s the latest sign of the momentum of this campaign,” Nutter said. “This endorsement shows that people all across the city are responding to my message of change and reform.”
Nutter’s campaign has been surging in recent days. Two independent polls place Nutter in a statistical tie for first place in the May 15 Democratic primary. As a confirmation of the polls and the building momentum, Nutter was able to raise more than $325,000 in the last four days of the filing period, which ended April 30.
The editorial also echoed a theme seen in many other endorsements: The other four candidates just aren’t up to task: “While Mr. Nutter’s four main opponents … are impressive, none quite measures up to Mr. Nutter when it comes to independence, a record of success and a solid grasp of the future.”
