Fattah To Receive Taxi Drivers Support

PHILADELPHIA-Mayoral Candidate Chaka Fattah will add to his growing number of endorsements this evening when he receives the support of the Philadelphia Taxi Owners Association. The organization represents 352 taxi owners and thousands of cab drivers in Philadelphia.

"We are proud to support Chaka Fattah," said Philadelphia Taxi Owners Association President David Arbel. "His vision for the city includes hard working entrepreneurs and working people like us."

The organization was impressed with Fattah's proposal to create a City Department of Transportation and his calls to restore regulation of taxi cabs to the city rather than the state-run Parking Authority. The proposal is among many detailed policy initiatives that Fattah has put forth for the city.

"I'm pleased to receive the endorsement of Philadelphia's taxi owners," Fattah said. "Like many working people around this city, they are supporting my vision for improving Philadelphia by improving the lives of Philadelphians."

In addition to the support of the Philadelphia Taxi Owners Association, Fattah has received endorsements from IATSE Philadelphia Local No 8 Stage Employees, SEIU 32BJ, AFSCME DC 47, Steelworkers Local 404, and the Gas Workers Local 686 UWUA. The Clergy Coalition, which represents more than 100,000 members, and the Pentecostal Clergy Political Action Committee, with over 25,000 members, have both endorsed Fattah. The grassroots group ACORN has also expressed support for Fattah.
