Where? Northeast corner of City Hall on the apron

When? Thursday, May 3rd at 12:00 p.m.

Who? Leaders of watchdog and reform groups

Philadelphia – Four public interest groups and a prominent local political blog, YoungPhillyPolitics.com, will release the first round of candidates who have signed the Philadelphia Fair and Clean Elections Pledge at a Thursday press conference.

“Many candidates talk about fixing Philadelphia’s campaign finance laws,” said David Donnelly, national campaigns director for Public Campaign Action Fund, a national nonprofit group dedicated to passing comprehensive public financing laws. “With the announcement today of the first round of Fair and Clean Elections pledge signers, Philadelphia voters will learn who is serious about making elections about voters instead of big money donors.”

The language of the pledge is modeled on the successful full public financing of elections laws in seven states and two cities, and a bipartisan bill introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Arlen Specter (R-PA).

The pledge has been already been endorsed by more than 20 candidates. The four groups – Common Cause Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Forward, MoveOn.org Political Action, and Public Campaign Action Fund – will announce plans to educate their members in the city about who has signed the pledge.

The pledge can be read at http://www.campaignmoney.org/philadelphiapledge.
