PHILADELPHIA, PA - At a rally in front of the Sheriff's Sale, the ACORN Political Action Committee today announced its support of Mayoral Candidate Chaka Fattah while highlighting Congressman Fattah's commitment to ACORN's foreclosure avoidance and his plans for greater home ownership and more affordable housing in Philadelphia.
"We are excited to see that there is a mayoral candidate that shares ACORN's commitment to Rowhouse Philadelphia," said John Moore, ACORN PAC Chair. "Congressman Fattah has pledged to work with ACORN to create a new home repair program, an affordable utilities program, and foreclosure avoidance program."
"ACORN has been a crucial voice for working Philadelphians for more than 30 years. Their successful advocacy on a host of issues has made a real difference in the lives of people in our city," Fattah said. "Together, we will all lift up members of our community most in need."
As Mayor, Chaka Fattah plans to establish a $10 million Philadelphia Homeowners Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program to provide emergency mortgage assistance to Philadelphia homeowners facing foreclosure. Modeled on the state program Fattah helped to implement, this program would create a $10 million loan fund to assist homeowners experiencing unavoidable, temporary difficulty making payments on mortgages.
"Congressman Fattah knows what it will take to get our neighborhoods back in order and back to the people," said ACORN PAC Precinct Action Leader Ollie Robinson. "I look forward to making sure my neighbors Get Out The Vote for Congressman Fattah on May 15th."
The ACORN Political Action Committee represents Philadelphia ACORN's 13,000 members citywide. PAC members will come together to provide valuable ground troops and GOTV expertise in the upcoming Mayoral Primaries on behalf of Congressman Chaka Fattah.
