Philadelphia, April 30, 2007 — In the first live debate today, Michael Nutter once again showed his knowledge of the issues that affects Philadelphians during the KYW Newsradio debate, with Larry Kane serving as moderator.
Nutter outlined his plan to decrease crime in the City by putting 500 cops on the street and increasing the role of community policing. “As a result of changes I made, 100 new cops will be on the street this year…We don’t need more taxes; We need Safety Now.”
Nutter believes getting illegal guns off the street is an important. “I am concerned about people’s civil rights, about their right to walk around this city without getting shot.”
In a crowded mayoral race Nutter has consistently put the issues of crime, education and economic development at the forefront of his campaign. As a parent with a child in public school Nutter wants the schools to be a safe haven of learning for all Philadelphia’s children.
Nutter stayed above the fray by answering the questions thoughtfully and knowledgeably. He once again proved himself as the most thoughtful and articulate candidate in the race.
The debate was held at KYW 1060’s new studio at 400 Market Street.
