PHILADELPHIA --- Mayoral candidate Dwight Evans happily accepted the “endorsement” of fellow candidate Tom Knox during a live debate on KYW Newsradio 1060 this morning. When asked a direct question by moderator Larry Kane on who he would support if he were not in the race, Knox enthusiastically responded, “Dwight Evans!”
“I am honored that Tom would voice his support for my candidacy this morning,” Evans stated after the debate. “Tom has circulated a petition to support my bill to give Philadelphia our power back to make our own gun laws, he has promoted my record of leadership on public safety in one of his television commercials, and now he has publicly stated he would vote for me. Maybe I should have asked for a campaign contribution from him this morning, too!”
Despite Tom’s support, Evans has pledged to continue to draw focus to the central issue in this race: each candidate’s record. By consistently asking each candidate to prove to the voters they have a record that matches their rhetoric, Evans will refocus the primary question of this election on what each candidate has done to deliver on their promises.
“With apologies to the famous Wendy’s commercial, it is important that voters ask ‘Where’s the beef?’ when it comes to looking at each candidate’s record,” Evans stated. “Some of my opponents have spent several million dollars trying to convince Philadelphians they have a record. Others did not step up and lead on the critical issues facing Philadelphia when they were in elected office and had the opportunity to do something. I, for one, am proud of my record on leading crime reduction in my district, on leading the school reform effort, and on leading on job creation through the construction of the convention center and building new supermarkets in Philadelphia.”
