MICHAEL NUTTER WINS INQUIRER ENDORSEMENT

Philadelphia, April 29, 2007 — The latest good news for Mayoral candidate Michael Nutter is the endorsement for Mayor by The Philadelphia Inquirer, the largest newspaper in metropolitan Philadelphia.

The newspaper, after interviewing each of the candidates at length, decided Nutter is “the most promising package of achievement, persistence, smarts and vision.” With hundreds of thousands of readers, the Inquirer’s endorsement will provide yet another enormous boost to Nutter’s campaign.

Just earlier this week, Philadelphia Magazine – the largest magazine in the region – endorsed Nutter for mayor in a three-page spread. And two days later, a new poll, commissioned by the Pennsylvanian’s For an Effective Government, showed Nutter in a statistical tie for first place with millionaire Tom Knox. Nutter was the only candidate who saw positive movement in the poll, lending additional momentum to the campaign with only a few weeks to go before Election Day.

Nutter was surprised with the news of the endorsement during a live interview on NBC10 on Friday. After learning of the news, Nutter told viewers, “That would be a tremendous boost to the campaign, hopefully it's a reflection of the kind of work that I did as a member of the City Council for a long time. ... they also feel I can put forward the kind of plan to turn Philadelphia around and create a new renaissance in this city and move us in the right direction."

The editorial board also praised Nutter as “easy to imagine on the national stage as the fresh voice of a resurgent Philadelphia, changing the narrative from one about bloodshed, corruption and dysfunction to one about new ideas, new energy, new partnerships.”

The Inquirer’s editorial board also said that after conducting its interviews, it was readily apparent that Bob Brady, Chaka Fattah and Tom Knox “don’t measure up,” adding that

Knox is “not so much an outsider as a novice.”
