NUTTER TALKS ABOUT NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION

Philadelphia, April 26, 2007— Today, in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia, Mayoral candidate Michael Nutter promised to create a new neighborhood fund to revitalize small businesses in targeted neighborhoods. “I want to create the same success in these neighborhoods that I did in West Parkside, said Nutter. Nutter pointed to his success at 52nd and Jefferson, in the Parkside neighborhood as an example of his leadership on neighborhood job creation.

Recently on 52nd and Jefferson streets in Philadelphia, Nutter saw the culmination of eight years of work come together during a groundbreaking at the new Park West Town Center. “This development is a long-held dream of the neighborhood that became a reality,” said Nutter. “Park West exists because of the partnership of private-public sector development and because of that partnership there will be a Loew’s Home Improvement store and a supermarket on Jefferson.”

Nutter said that when the Park West project is completed it will create more than 600 permanent jobs, “many of which will be for neighborhood residents. That’s the kind of success that I want to bring to North Philadelphia as Mayor.”

“I am committed to bringing back long-neglected neighborhoods and revitalizing commercial corridors and as Mayor it will be a large part of my administration,” said Nutter.

“Ridge Avenue is a neighborhood of residential and commercial spaces that will benefit from private and public development,” said Nutter. “With a strong Community Development Corporation and a belief that it can happen, Ridge Avenue can thrive once again in my administration.”

In his Opportunity Now plan, Nutter said that as Mayor, he will establish a Neighborhood TIF (Tax Increment Fund) that will provide at least 8 million annually for neighborhood economic development.

Joining him today are Lucinda Hudson, President of Parkside Association, Jeff Allegretti, Roxborough Development Corporation and Chad Dion Lassiter, Social worker, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
