McClure Releases Plan for Immediate Improvements to Neighborhood Services and Quality of Life in the 4th district: Pledges to be Most Accessible Member of City Council
Today, standing amidst the debris of a collapsed wall in the city's Manayunk section, Matt McClure, a candidate for the City Council, released his plan for making immediate improvements in neighborhood services and quality of life for the residents of the 4th Councilmanic District.
McClure said, "The 4th District hasn't received its fair share of funding for neighborhood improvements in some time. We could prevent walls from collapsing if city hall was proactive and helped us when the first signs of blight appear. The current councilperson has compounded the problem by being inattentive and unresponsive. She's even told members of citizens groups to 'not call her, she'll call them.' The neglect must end. We can do so much better. I want to be the most accessible member of City Council, so my future constituents always know they will have someone advocating on their behalf for the services the City is supposed to provide."
The full plan, available on the website at www.McClureforCouncil.com -discusses a number of programs and policies McClure would like to see for the 4th District. Most prominent among them is the expansion of the city's Community Life Improvement Program (CLIP)- a quality of life initiative which has been in place for several years in certain sections of Northeast Philadelphia (a region which, like the 4th, has received a low share of city investment) and has had promising results.
Highlights from the plan includes:
* Expansion of the Community Life Improvement Program (CLIP) throughout the 4th district to address blight before it escalates and invest in our neighborhoods
* Implementation of the nationally recognized, award-winning CitiStat program and a 3-1-1 Call Center for citizens to hold government accountable for delivering services effectively and efficiently
* Strengthening private sector and nonprofit partnerships to enhance special services districts that can add to the services provided by the city.
* Creations of community courts that can serve our neighborhoods by addressing quality of life crimes with solutions and restitution within our neighborhoods
* A commitment to being the most accessible and responsive member of City Council, from day one on the job with multiple neighborhood constituent services offices, and weekend and evening hours.
