FATTAH VISITS MODEL PRE-K PROGRAM

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Mayoral Candidate Chaka Fattah visited the Cooperative Nursery at The Unitarian Society of Germantown today to illustrate the importance of Pre-k programs. As a father of four, Fattah understands the importance of early childhood education and for this reason made it one of the underpinnings of the Fattah Opportunity Agenda.

"Early childhood education is the key to opportunity," Fattah said. "Every child in Philadelphia deserves a strong foundation upon which to build a lifetime of success. As mayor I will ensure that every child has access to exemplary programming like that of the Cooperative Nursery."

The Nursery was picked for its history of placing children on the right path. Since 1967, the Cooperative Nursery has made early childhood achievement possible by balancing childrens' need for structure and work with the need for freedom and play.

"Making Philadelphia the next great American city starts with providing a solid commitment to the next generation through early education," Fattah said. "During the 2004-2005 school year, the percentage of children entering public school kindergartens fell to 66 percent from 70 percent the previous year. Under my administration the numbers will rise and not fall. That's a promise."
