McClure Releases Crime Prevention Plan

Immediate and Long Term Proposals Presented

Today Matt McClure, a candidate for the City Council from the 4th Councimanic District, released his plan for Public Safety and Crime Prevention for the city of Philadelphia and the neighborhoods of the 4th Councimanic District.

McClure said, “As the violence in our city rages out of control, we need strong leadership to tackle these problems head on. Patronage jobs, corrupt officials, and the political machine will not keep our streets safe. They will not stop our children from killing each other. They have proven they will not bring prosperity or real opportunity to our communities. We need change.”

The plan, which can be read at www.mcclureforcouncil.com, outlines the following programs and recommendations that McClure plans on advocating for in Council. The McClure plan focuses on two key goals: 1) Immediately reducing crime and 2) Real solutions for long term reduction in criminal activity.

Reduce Crime Now:

· More Police on the Streets. (more hiring and better deployment)
· Saturate high crime areas with tactics that work. (beat cops, community based policing tactics)
· Tougher prosecution of criminals and greater witness protection.
· Provide police with 21st Century technology and tools to better target and combat crime.
· More parole and probation officers to eliminate repeat offenders.

Long-term Solutions – Investing in our children and neighborhoods:

· Address the high school dropout crisis in Philadelphia.
· Invest in high quality pre-schools for our children.
· Crack down on quality of life crimes.
· Lobby for Philadelphia to write its own gun laws – like one gun a month.

Matt McClure lives in East Falls with his wife Kelly and two sons. The McClure family was recently the victim of an attempted burglary at their home.
