WHAT: First "Tailgate" Event with the Candidates, New Cars and Refreshments

WHEN: Wednesday, April 18, 2007, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Philadelphia's mayoral candidates and/or their representatives will appear in a casual "tailgate" atmosphere for a public and media meet-and-greet. City Hall will provide the perfect backdrop for the mayoral hopefuls, with much expected foot and vehicular traffic.
In addition, some of PhillyCarShare's exciting new line of vehicles will be unveiled.
PhillyCarShare, launched in 2002, is a non-profit organization that operates a rapidly growing fleet of " cars by the hour" from 100+ neighborhood locations (pods) in Philadelphia. Each member receives a personal key and 24-hour access. Then driving is easy: reserve online, unlock, and go! Members report selling or avoiding the purchase of 7,000 cars; walk, bike, and take transit more; and save an average of $4,000 annually versus owning cars. PhillyCarShare pioneered free memberships, service to drivers aged 18 to 20, pods every block, debit billing (enabling people of all incomes to join), and child seats. The City of Philadelphia joined in 2004, becoming the first government worldwide to share cars with local residents in a major fleet reduction effort. The pioneering project has helped replace 330 municipal vehicles, saving taxpayers $2 million annually. For more information, visit www.phillycarshare.org.
