PHILADELPHIA-Chaka Fattah, who raised over $1.6 million through three committees in 2006, has raised over $1.1 million in the five months since announcing his candidacy for Mayor.
According to today's filings, Fattah raised $748,614 between Jan 1 and March 26, and had nearly $600,000 cash onhand in his Fattah for Mayor account.
Fattah, who has spent much of his political career raising money under strict federal contribution limits, raised the bulk of his funds through small dollar donations.
"I have seen impressive support from Philadelphians from diverse social and economic backgrounds, and donations ranging from thousands of dollars to just a few," Fattah said. "But at the end of the day, this is an election, not an auction, and the biggest contribution Philadelphians can make is to support my bid for the Democratic nomination for Mayor on May 15th."
