Knox Hosts Community Breakfast in South Philadelphia

Residents Say Crime, Corruption in City Hall Among Top Concerns

PHILADELPHIA – More than 75 South Philadelphia residents turned out for a community breakfast Saturday to enjoy eggs, sausage and waffles and ask questions of Democratic Mayoral candidate Tom Knox.  After addressing the crowd, Knox heard an earful from residents who voiced their concerns about the direction the city is headed, listing rising crime and corruption in City Hall among their top issues.

"Fighting crime will be my top priority when I'm elected Mayor.  We must attack crime at its roots.  I have proposed a series of long and short-term solutions that will help make our city safer," said Knox.  "It starts with hiring 1,000 more police officers and upgrading police technology so they can do their job better.  But we must also do more to combat the lack of education and job training that fuel crime."

Knox also addressed the growing concern among South Philadelphia residents that City Hall isn't looking out for their best interests.  "There's a 'For Sale ' sign on City Hall, and I intend to take it off," said Knox.  "I will put an end to the culture of pay-to-play politics that has existed for far too long in Philadelphia."

Knox fielded a series of questions following his remarks, staying long after the open session concluded to talk one-on-one with attendees.

The event, held at Fifth Stone Music School in the Packer Park section of the city, was the second in a city-wide series of community gatherings hosted by Knox.
