FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mayoral Candidate Fattah budget statement

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Mayoral Candidate Chaka Fattah released the following statement on the Administration's Budget and Five Year Fiscal Plan:

"I support many of the administration's proposals, including the $2.55 billion five-year investment in law enforcement that will include the hiring of 200 police officers and the opening of 11 more of the Curfew Centers that have proven successful in the pilot phase. I agree with many of the other priorities set forth in this budget, including the $65 million commitment to restoring Commercial Corridors. In some cases, I would have made different choices. But as a candidate for Mayor, I have announced my own fiscal plan, which includes replacing the business privilege tax with a simple net profits charge, the continued reduction of the wage tax, and a significant investment in eliminating poverty and expanding opportunity for every Philadelphian. I know that the budget poses significant challenges to the next mayor and that the city must improve its financial standing, but if elected, we will be committed to fiscal stability and creating opportunities for all Philadelphians.
