Philadelphia, February 21, 2007— Since mayoral candidate Michael Nutter expressed his shock and dismay at Rocky Balboa not getting an Oscar nomination last month, he has moved on and made his Oscar picks from the official nomination list.
“OK, Rocky may have been snubbed,” Nutter said, “but there were still a lot of great films released this year. Just not as great as Rocky.”
Although still disappointed that Philadelphia would not get the chance to showcase one of the city’s most famous – if fictional – heroes, Michael still made his selections for six top Oscar categories.
His picks are as follows:
Best Actress: Helen Mirren, The Queen
Best Actor: Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland
Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls
Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls
Best Director: Martin Scorsese, The Departed
Best Picture:
Nutter said “I’m protesting because Rocky Balboa should get the Oscar and if not Rocky then Dreamgirls.” Nutter noted, however, that if he was forced to choose among the nominees – “it would be Little Miss Sunshine, what can I say,” he continued with a grin. “I like happy endings.”
The 79th-annual Oscar Awards will be held this Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 8 p.m. EST. The mayoral candidate is a big film buff, and though disappointed Rocky was snubbed, he will eagerly wait to see the outcome of his predictions.
