Al Taubenberger, the longtime president of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, will return to the steps of his childhood home today to announce his plan to seek the Republican nomination for mayor.

"I am running to free our neighborhoods from the rising tide of crime, and rescue City Hall from the culture of corruption that's festered after more than 50 years of one-party rule," Taubenberger said.

Taubenberger will announce his candidacy for the Republican Party nomination on the southeast corner of St. Vincent Street and Oxford Avenue, on Feb. 8 at 2 PM. He will be joined by City Councilmen Frank Rizzo and Jack Kelly, ward leaders and other dignitaries.

"Al understands the challenges faced by the families, schools and the businesses of this city," Kelly said. "He's one of us."

"We have a good candidate in Al Taubenberger," Rizzo said

Taubenberger will seek his party's endorsement after his announcement.
