REPRINTED FROM THENEXTMAYOR.COMFebruary 9, 2007 press release, (submitted via e-mail) |
On Friday February 2nd, an ad hoc federation of seven downtown neighborhood associations, the Crosstown Coalition, commenced emailing their 4000 members a questionnaire inquiring of their members what issues should be discussed in the upcoming mayor’s race. A copy of the initial citizen’s questionnaire is attached. As of February 8, 660 responses have been received and approximately 700 emails have yet to be transmitted.
The results of this questionnaire will be used to phrase a questionnaire to be presented to the various candidates in the third week of March with the request that the candidates respond within two weeks. The questions presented to the candidates will reflect the citizen survey results by including percentage of respondents who, for example, regard the City Government’s operation within the past five years as being significantly corrupt. The questions and the candidate responses will be posted on a blog sponsored by the Coalition so as to encourage community comment.
Coalition task forces have interviewed more than thirty experts in government, academia and foundations seeking to identify good government practices the Coalition community should expect of the next mayor. A partial list of those interviewed is attached.
The Coalition members are: Center City Residents Association, Bella Vista Civic Association, Logan Square Neighborhood Association, Old City Civic Association, Queen Village Neighbor Association, Washington Square West Civic Association, and Society Hill Civic Association.
