PHILADELPHIA --- Congressman Robert A. Brady (D., Pa) will convene a meeting of health care executives and health care union leadership in the wake of the closure of Graduate Hospital and the dislocation of its health care workforce. The meeting is scheduled for Fri., Feb. 2, 2007 at 2 p.m., Sheraton Philadelphia City Center Hotel, Logan Rm., lobby level, 17th & Race St. (the former Wyndham Franklin Plaza)
There will be a media availability immediately following the meeting.
Brady said the meeting has both short term and long term goals. "On one hand we're looking for employment for the workers who have been terminated because of the sale of Graduate Hospital to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. But, I also intend to establish a health care task force that will focus on the changing face of healthcare and its impact on workers."
Those invited include: Jefferson University Hospital, Temple University Hospital, Einstein Healthcare Network, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Chestnut Hill Health System, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Crozer-Keystone Health System and the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees.
"It is important that we develop a united plan to cope with the continuing strains the area's health care institutions are under. Our region is the nation's leading healthcare center. We must do everything in our power to protect these jobs while helping our hospitals meet the region's growing health care needs," Brady said.
Congressman Brady has consistently supported Medicaid reform and increases in the federal commitment to improve health care delivery. Throughout his eight years in Congress, he has used his relations with his colleagues to bring billions of dollars in direct funding to Philadelphia's hospitals and community health centers.
