FATTAH RAISES $1.62 MILLION IN 2006
PHILADELPHIA-Leading Mayoral Candidate Chaka Fattah, who has posted leads over his competitors in four straight public polls, including today's Daily News Keystone Poll, raised over $1.62 million in 2006.
Last year, Fattah raised $398,210.00 through Fattah for Mayor, $615,106.76 through the Fattah for Mayor Exploratory Committee, and $607,681.61 through Fattah for Congress.
According to today's filings, Fattah had $700,974.55 cash on hand in his Fattah for Mayor account as of Jan. 31. Fattah also had $450,097.47 available in his Fattah for Congress account, and according to a letter Fattah sent today, contributors to Fattah for Congress may choose to transfer their contributions to Fattah for Mayor, which would bring Fattah's Mayoral campaign cash to over $1.1 million.
The significant fundraising numbers mark the end of a record year for Fattah, who showed that he could raise significant money quickly.
"I'm proud of the fact that we were able to raise $1.5 million and also help Democrats to significant victories in 2006," said Fattah, who gave $189,000 to Democratic candidates across the nation last year.
The frontrunner since announcing his candidacy, Fattah is confident that he can raise the money necessary to convey his message to Philadelphians.
"At the end of the day, this is an election, not an auction," Fattah said. "The biggest contribution Philadelphians can make is to get involved in the political process and vote on May 15th."
