PRESS ADVISORY –  DINNER & A MOVIE WITH MR. & MRS. TOM KNOX

PHILADELPHIAWhat’s so special about Friday night dinner and a movie? Nothing much – except mayoral candidate Tom Knox and his wife Linda will dine at Qdoba Mexican Grill and then catch a movie at the Pearl Theatre, part of the Shops at Avenue North retail development that opened in December 2006.

“Despite the unfortunate violence here, this is still an important investment in the North Philadelphia community and people need to support it,” he said. “North Philadelphia needs more investment, not less, and when I’m mayor, I’ll do everything in my power to revitalize neighborhood shopping. Part of my job will be to get the guns off the streets, so people in the neighborhood and the students at Temple can go out to dinner, see a movie and walk the streets at night.”

Tower Investments, led by local developer Bart Blatstein, built the $100 million complex of retails stores and restaurants anchored by the Pearl Theatre. Avenue North opened with much fanfare as a beacon of hope in North Philadelphia, but the positive attention was shortlived when a youth was shot outside the theater a few days after opening.
