NEIGHBORHOOD NETWORKS SPONSORS 8th DISTRICT CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES’ FORUM ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 20

On Saturday, January 20 from 2:00-5:00pm the Northwest Philadelphia chapters of Neighborhood Networks will sponsor a forum for candidates who seek the 8th District City Council seat currently held by Donna Reed Miller. Among those who will address questions about their ideas and priorities for the City and the District are Irv Acklesberg, Greg Paulmier, Alex Talmadge, Cindy Bass and Councilwoman Miller. The forum will be held at Center in the Park, 5818 Germantown Avenue, in Vernon Park. The public is invited to this free event. Parking is located at the Rittenhouse Street entrance.

The Northwest Philadelphia Chapters of Neighborhood Networks represent the economically and racially diverse area of the city extending from Chestnut Hill through Mt. Airy and Germantown. The three Chapters are composed of members in the 12th, 13th, 17th, 59th, 9th 22nd and 23rd Wards.

According to Conni Bille, who chairs the Germantown Chapter, “We expect a diverse crowd of people from the 8th District. From the Happy Hollow Recreation center in Germantown to the Chestnut Hill Water Tower, and from Pastorius School to Henry School neighbors who are eager to hear from the people who want to represent this District.”

Neighborhood Networks, a city-wide politically progressive civic organization founded in 2005, has been sponsoring candidate forums in various parts of the city in anticipation of the May 2007 primary races. The group asks candidates to reply to a questionnaire about their positions on various city issues, such as tax policies, environmental issues and other public matters. Each candidate’s responses to the questionnaire are posted on the group’s Web site at www.phillynn.org.

For further information call Connie Bille at 215-843-1210.
