WHY: On Tuesday, January 16, 2007, Mayoral Candidate Michael Nutter will return to his childhood home to unveil his wide-ranging "Safety Now" plan to combat violence in Philadelphia.
"I chose to come back to my old neighborhood when I heard about the tragic shooting death of Christopher Freeny, just two blocks away from my old home," said Nutter. "The level of violence in our City has reached epidemic proportions. My plan outlines immediate steps to help alleviate the problems on our streets."
Nutter's anti-crime vision for the city focuses on five key points, including the hiring and redeployment of police officers and targeting repeat offenders.
