TO VOLUNTEER AT MANNA ON CHRISTMAS DAY
PHILADELPHIA --- Mayoral candidate Dwight Evans will join hundreds of volunteers working at MANNA from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, December 25th. Evans lauded the work of MANNA for providing nourishment to people living with terminal diseases and praised the countless volunteers who make MANNA’s work possible.
“The Holiday season is built on the spirit of giving, particularly to those who are most in need,” Evans said. “I am grateful to the thousands of volunteers who dedicate themselves to delivering literally millions of meals to people in need. They are true heroes, and I am honored to spend part of the Christmas holiday helping them in their efforts.”
Formed in 1990 by members of the First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, MANNA is not-for-profit and non-sectarian. MANNA provides meals and nutritional counseling to adults and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illness in Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. To date it has served over 5,000,000 meals to individuals and families. More than 85% of MANNA’s clients are African American and Latino, and more than 90% meet federal poverty guidelines.
