MAYORAL CANDIDATE MICHAEL NUTTER
COMMENDS CITY COUNCIL ON THEIR SWIFT CONFIRMATION OF ETHICS BOARD
Philadelphia November 14, 2006 – Today the Ethics Board is complete. Michael Nutter, who proposed the legislation during his time on City Council, commended his former City Council colleagues for their swift action in confirming the five members for Philadelphia’s Board of Ethics.
“This has been a long time coming and I must thank City Council for moving so quickly to confirm these five board members,” said Nutter”. The formation of the Board of Ethics is a strong signal of change in Philadelphia. It signals to the citizens of Philadelphia that the stench from years of political scandal will no longer be a part of our landscape.
The new Board of Ethics has the authority to hold hearings, has jurisdiction over campaign finance reporting and can impose fines, among other things. The five Board Members are Pauline Abernathy, Richard Glazer, Reverend Alyn Waller, Stella Tsai and Richard Negrin.
“Today’s action marks the beginning of true ethics reform in Philadelphia,” said Nutter. “ I’m proud to have sponsored the legislation.
